3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this Standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3,1
appliance
hoist or ramp
3.2
bridge plate
cover over the gap between the threshold of the vehicle entry and the edge of the boarding platform
Note ito entry: The bridge plate may also be used as an Inner roll stop.
3.3
deploy
move the appliance from a stored position on the vehicle to an operating position
3.4
platform
load-bearing surface which is constructed in the one plane
3.5
ramp
inclined platform which is either permanently or temporarily attached to the vehicle
Note 1 to entry: The word may mean one ramp or more than one ramp used together.
3.6
shall
indicates that a statement is mandatory
This Appendix sets out a method for testing the platform of an appliance for the interface between the platform and the vehicle In which the appliance Is fitted.
B.2 Principle
The platform of the appliance is deployed and placed in its fully raised position. The attitude of the platform is measured. A load is placed on the platform and left in position for a specified time. The platform is measured for deflection. The load Is removed and the Interlace between the platform and the vehicle is measured.
B.3 Apparatus
The following apparatus is required:
(a) A means by which the attitude of the platform can be measured, in degrees.
(b) A means by which a test force of 1.2S x SWL can be applied through the centroid of the platform.
NOTE An example of a standard loading pad is given in AS 3856.1.
B.4 Procedure
The procedure shall be as follows:
(a) Deploy the platform and place the platform in its fully raised position.
(b) Measure the attitude ofthe platform
(c) Place the test force of 1.25 x SWLatthecentroid of the platform.
(d) Leave the force in place for a period of 2 mm.
(e) Measure and note the angle, in degrees, of any deflection of the platform. Remove the test load.
(g) Measure and note the total vertical difference between the horizontal surface of the platform and the horizontal surface of the floor of the vehicle at the point where the platlorm meets the vehicle.
(h) Measure and note any gap between the platform and the vehicle.
(g) Leave the test load in place and raise and lower the platform through its full operable range.
(I) Inspect and identify any pinch points, damage or compression of cables and/or hoses throughout Its full operable range.
(j) Inspect and address any discernible deflection of the vehicle hoist interface during loaded operation For a raise and lower cycle.
8.5 Report
The following shall be reported:
(a) The brand and model number of the appliance and the make arid model of the vehicle.
(b) Any deflection of the platform when measured in accordance with Clause LS Step (eJ. in degrees.
(c) The total vertical difference between the horizontal surface of the vehicle and the hortzontal surface of the platform.
(d) Any horizontal difference (gap) between the platform and the vehicle.
(c) A reference to this test method i.e. AS 38562 Appendix B.
