4 DEFINITIONS
Definitions of terms used within this Standard may be found in ASME B107.25M.
S REQUIREMENTS
5.1 IllustratIons
The illustrations shown herein axe descriptive and not restrictive, and are not intended to preclude the manufacture of pliers that axe otherwise in accordance with this Standard. All figures are shown without comfort grip5
5.2 MaterIals
The materials used in the manufacture of pliers shall be such as to produce pliers conforming to the requireinents specified herein,
5.3 DesJgn
Pliers shall be similar to the figure to which reference is made; shall be proportioned in all paris so as to be strong, durable, and easy to operate; and shall conform to th. requirements specified herein. Test specimens shall withstand applicable test procedures without cracking or breaking.
5.4 Severed Wire Profiles
Cutting edges shall be so designed as to produce one of the severed wire profiles illustrated in Table 1 using wue specified in para 62.1.
53 Handles
5.5.1 CharacteristIcs. Handles shall have a hardness from 35 l-IRC to 50 HRC or equivalent. Handles shall be so shaped as to provide a comfortable grip and shall be free from rough edges and sharp corners. Ends of handles shall not touch when the iaws axe in a dosed position. Outer hand gripping surfaces shall be smooth.
6.4 Handle Load Test
Permanent set shafl be tested in accordance with para 5.1 of ASME B107.25M. Loads are specified in Table 2 hereut Load shall be applied at the point of malLimum handle curvature (normal gripping position). Grips. when provided, shall be removed prior to testing.
6S Solvent Resistance Test
Comfort grips and cushion grip throat shall 6 tested in accordance with para. 53.1 of ASME B107.25M.
6.6 Jaw Opening and Closing Test
Phers shall be tested in accordance with pam 5.4.3 of ASME B107.25M. The load required to open jaws to, or dose jaws from, the respective minimum jaw opening shall not be greater than that shown in Table 3. Jaw opening is specified in Tables 4.5.6, or 7.
7 TYPE, CLASS, AND S1YII PROVISIONS
7.1 Type I, Diagonal Cutting, Regular Nose
Pliers shall be suitable for cutting wire clone to flat surfaces One side of the jaws shall be recessed to provide a swtable cutting edge clearance.
7.1.1 Type I, Class 1, PlaIn, Styles A, B, and C. Pliers shall be similar to Fig. 2 and shall conform to dimensions shown in Table 4 for the sue specified.
