(a) ASME B18.2.7.1 Mcovers the complete general and dimensional data for metric 12-spline flange screws recognized as American National Standard.
(b) The inclusion of dimensional data in this Standard is not intended to imply that all of the sizes in conjunction with the various options described herein are stock items. Consumers should consult with suppliers concerning lists of stock production 12-spline flange screws.
(c) The wrenching configuratwn is defined in SAE
AS1325.
2 COMPARISON WITH ISO STANDARDS
(a) At this time no ISO standard for spline drive screws exists, except those for aerospace fasteners included in ISO 9254 and ISO 9255. Further, no work within ISO is expected for somc time. These splines are not interchangeable with the aerospace ISO spline designs.
(b) Letter symbols designating dimensional characteristics are in accord with those used in ISO standards, except where capitals have been used instead of lower case letters used in ISO standards.
3 REFERENCED STANDARDS
Unless otherwise specified, the standarcs) referenced shall be the most recent issue at the time of order placement.
ASME B1.13M, Metric Screw Threads—M Profile
ASME Bl.3M, Screw Thread Gaging Systems for Dimensional Acceptability — Inch and Metric Screw Threads (UN, LJNR, UNJ, M, and M3)
ASME B 18.2.8, Clearance Holes for Bolts, Screws and Studs
ASME B18.12, Glossary of Terms for Mechanical Fasteners
ASME B18.18.IM, Inspection and Quality Assurance for General Purpose Fasteners
When supplied, the point radius, R, and maximum point length, U, shall be specified in Table 7.
16 STRAIGHTNESS
At maximum material condition, the axes of the screw body and thread major diameter shall be within a straightness colerancc diameter equal to 0.006 times the nominal product length, L, expressed as a two- place decimal. A gage and gaging procedure for checking screw straightness is given in Nonmandatory Appendix A.
17 ThREAD LENGTH
The length of thread on screws shall be controlled by the maximum grip gaging length, L,, and the minimum body length, L,, as set forth in paras. 17.2 through
17.5. For standard diaineter.length combinations of screws, the values for L,max. and L,min. are specified in Table 8.
NOTE incorporation of a common L, and L, length for jacczfl bolt lengths allovi the manufactwer to use fewer tools and reduce set-up time when niakthg these products. When this concept does nOt iuit the iiended application, the ruared L, and L dirncnsious may be calculated uig the formulas given in paras. 17.2 and 17.3.
