This standard is not applicable to electric cooking and heating equipment for household and similar purposes, nor does it apply to installations and apparatus for household and industrial room heating, soldering, welding or similar uses, electroheat installations for agriculture, for heating roads, bridges, parking, or space heating of any kind.
The object of this standard is slandardisation of the test conditions, fundamental measurements and general test methods applicable to all industrial electroheat installations to confirm their safety and performance specifications.
This standard is intended to be used in conjunction with the relevant particular standards on safety and performance for industrial electroheat equipment where these exist, Where such standards are not applicable, agreement may be made between the manufacturer and user. The lists of tests given In this standard are neither mandatory nor restrictive.

3 Definitions
For the purpose of this International Standard, the definitions of IEC 60050(841) as well as the following definitions apply.
With respect to electrical terms and quantities, unless otherwise stated, the terms voltage and current apply to rm.s. values in the case of ac.; the electrical terms and quantities associated with the word rated refer to the electroheat equipment Itself. The terms rated voltage. rated current or rated power apply to the voltage (in the case of three-phase systems. the voltage between phases), the current or the power specified by the manufacturer and marked on the electroheat equipment.
cold state (of an electroheat Installation)
thermal state of an electroheat installation in which the temperature of all the components of its electroheat equipment equals the ambient temperature
hot state (of an electroheat Installation)
thermal state of an electroheat installation in which the components are at their operating or steady state temperature and the charge (If any) has attained its steady state temperature or its intended temperature distribution
thermal steady state (of an electroheat Installation)
thermal state of an electroheat installation in which the whole energy input into the electroheat equipment is used to compensate its thermal losses
normal operating conditions
operating conditions for which the electroheat equipment is designed and most generally used.
