3 Definitions
For the purpose of this part of IEC 61319 the following general definitions apply. For other explanations of terms and abbreviations, see IEC 61319-1.
3.1 mechanical polarizer: Polarizer which can select one type of polarization by rotating a probe mechanically with a servo-motor. The type of polarization is determined by the pulse duration of a control signal.
3.2 magn.tlc polarizer: Polarizer which can select one type of polarization by changing the current of a Faraday rotator.
3.3 polarIzation switcher (polar switcher): Device which can select one te of polarization by selecting electrically an LNB that corresponds to that type of polarization. The type of polarization is determined by the supply voltage for the LNB
4 Interface requirements for polarizers and polar switchers
4.1 Mechanical polarizers
Three output terminals shall be provided, with the corresponding signals:
The constant d.c. current supply shall be capable of passing 40 mA into a load resistance of 60 c to 180 a
Current in one direction corresponds 10 horizontal (H) polarization, and a reverse current corresponds to vertical (V) polarization.
4.3 Polar switcher
The polarization is selected by changing the supply voltage for the LNB ted by the centre conductor of the IF output cable.
LNB supply voltages and required powers are:
— 13.5 V to 16.5 V and less than 4 W corresponds to horizontal:
— 9.5 V to 12,0 V and less than 3 W corresponds to vertical. The above values apply to the input of the LNB or polar switcher.
NOTE — It is recommended dial the control signet voltages at tile indoor unit output are determined tailing Into Consideration the voltage drop between indoor unit and LNB. For example, it the voltage drop is 1.3 V. the apecilicaleon of the output voltage ahould be 14,8 V to 18,5 V for horizontal and 10.8 V to 12,0 V for vertical polarization.
5 Interface requirements for low-noise block converters
5 I Characteristic impedance of the first intermediate frequency (IF) The output characteristic impedance shall be 75 .
5.2 Interface between the LNB (outdoor part) and the satellite receiver (indoor part):
one input signal.
5.2.1 Single-band block converters
The supply voltage shall be applied to the centre conductor of the coaxial cable which also
carries the IF output.
For a polarization fixed antenna and for an antenna with a mechanical or magnetic polarizer.
