IEC 61335:1997 pdf download – Nuclear instrumentation -Bore-hole apparatus for x-rayfluorescence analysis.
IEC 61335 applies to prospecting and mining bore-hole apparatus for X-ray fluorescence analysis and logging intended for the measurement and recording of values characterizing the elemental composition of rocks in the immediate vicinity of bore-hole walls,
This standard applies to apparatus consisting of:
— bore-hole logging instrument with a X-ray source and detection unit;
— coaxial cable:
— depth recording unit;
— other instruments (power supply units, converters, recorders, processing and read-out
instruments) if they are integral components of the apparatus.
It does not apply to the bore-hole logging apparatus used for prospecting radioactive ore deposits.
This standard specifies the types of apparatus, general technical requirements, performance or production unit acceptance tests, and gives recommendations about technical characteristics that are to be included in the operation and maintenance documentation (or certificate).

3 DefInitIons
For the purpose of this International Standard, the following definitions apply.
3.1 working range: The range of concentrations for the different elements to be analysed, in which the measurements are carried out with specified accuracy.
3.8 counting losses: A reduction of the observed counting rate due to the dead time or to losses caused by pulse pile-up.
3.9 integral non-linearity: The ratio of maximum deviation from the ideal linear plot of the output parameter versus the maximum value of this particular range in percent.
310 detection limit: The minimum concentration of the analyzed element that can be detected by the X-ray fluorescence apparatus in specified measurement conditions with a probability of error less than 0,3 % for the specified measurement time
3.11 measurement limit: The highest concentration of the element under analysis, measured by the instrument.
3.12 settling time: The time required, after applying power to the apparatus in equilibrium with its environment, to reach its specified operating accuracy.
4 Apparatus types
4.1 Probe
A p-robe is that part of the X-ray fluorescence measuring assembly consisting of an envelope of
convenient geometrical form containing an X-ray source and a radiation detector, and possibly
a preamplifier and certain functional units, Its form and construction are usually such as to
permit its operation in places of difficult access, or remote from the associated apparatus, or
for scanning a surface or volume (see definition 1EV 391-13-05. modified).
